The Research Information Technology Group (RITG) augments local and departmental systems administration groups at Harvard Medical School, providing systems architecture services for research computing. RITG also provides local departmental support for research computing in the Department of Systems Biology. RITG also is building a shared research cluster for the HMS research community. Systems Biology Microscopy Facility (SBMF) The Microscopy Facility at Harvard Medical School is a Systems Biology Department core facility for light microscopy developed in partnership with Nikon Instruments Inc. and Micro Video Instruments Inc. The SBMF maintains laser scanning confocals, spinning disk confocals, a total internal fluorescence system, and other basic fluorescence and transmitted light microscopes. All users are fully trained to use the equipment; no prior imaging experience is necessary. BioNumbers is a database of useful biological numbers. It is a community effort to make quantitative properties of biological systems easily available and with full reference to their primary source. BioNumbers was started in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School by Drs. Ron Milo, Paul Jorgensen and Mike Springer. It is envisioned as a wiki like portal where properties such as the volume of the nucleus, the number of ribosomes in a cell or the number of bacteria in your gut can be easily found, referenced and discussed.
